If I take my own photo how do I take the correct shot?

If you would like to take your own picture or send me one of your pictures, (if you send me a picture I need to look it over to make sure it’ll work. The picture needs to be high resolution with good lighting with eyes open, looking at you. Please see the examples to the right on what works best.
First, get down to your pet's level ...
• Focus on the eyes
• Avoid busy backgrounds
• Use natural light
• Help your pet look their best
• Talk to your pet during the shoot
• Highlight your pet's personality

If you can’t get the perfect shot, don’t fret. There are lots of things that can be done to create the desired effect. I will review the file you provide and let you know if I can work with it. If the shot requires extensive retouching there may be an additional small charge. As of now, I accept Venmo, checks and cash only.

Once you get that perfect photo, e-mail it to me here dpaulmann@me.com Let me know what frame color you want and if it’s one or two pets. I’ll review the file and get back to you right away.

Keep your entire pet in the image. The photo is high resolution. There is a good contrast between foreground and background (all images are cut out and put on a white background). The photo is taken at eye level of the pet. Not looking down or up. The pet is looking into the camera. The pet is sitting so a “bust” of the pet can be created.

Pet partially covered and out of focus. Lighting on Pet not good. Heavy shadows on face. Eyes closed.

Image shot from above, not eye level. Angled Face, ears not equal and not symmetrical. Try and imagine a white background and where the image would be in the frame.

Side profile, not front facing. With all black or all white animals, make sure the contrast and lighting are good because the details will otherwise be lost.
